The much-anticipated release of Apple’s rumored iPhone 16 is just weeks away, with significant updates expected. These include a new power-efficient display, larger screens, improved zoom lenses, and the inclusion of an action button for all 2024 iPhone models. The iPhone 16 series is expected to be a platform for Apple’s suite of new AI-powered features, at a time when rival phone makers like Samsung and Google are also heavily investing in AI technology.
The iPhone 16 and 16 Pro are expected to come in new colors, with upgraded cameras. Apple usually holds its annual iPhone event in September, and it’s likely the timeline will remain the same for the iPhone 16. The exact date for this year’s iPhone event hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s typically held on the Tuesday in the second week of September, which would suggest a September 10 event this year.
Rumors suggest that select iPhone 16 models will adopt an innovative screen technology, resulting in thinner bezels or the frame around the phone’s screen. This could translate to a slightly larger screen area for some iPhone 16 models. Apple is also reportedly planning to cut the larger-screened Plus model from its lineup next year and introduce a new ultra-thin premium iPhone, potentially called the iPhone 17 Slim.
Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that the blue color option of the iPhone 15 Pro will be replaced with a new rose model for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. He also predicted that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be available in white, replacing the yellow model.
AI is a significant focus for the iPhone 16, with Apple Intelligence making its debut during the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June. It brings ChatGPT integration, tools for proofreading and rewriting text in a different tone, new Siri features, and the ability to generate images and emojis, among other features.
Photographs of 3D-printed dummy models of the rumored iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro suggest that the iPhone 16 may have a vertical camera stack and an action button. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max could have 5x telephoto lenses next year. Apple might also add an anti-reflective technology to its camera manufacturing process to enhance photo quality.
All four iPhone 16 models will apparently get a next-generation Apple chipset, which will all receive A18 branding. The A18 chip will be manufactured with TSMC’s cutting-edge 3-nanometer process. Despite rumors of a foldable iPhone, Apple has remained quiet on this front, with the latest rumors suggesting a “clamshell” design iPhone could be ready as early as 2026.
