Hatred is never justified. Hating people just because of their racial origin is juvenile. Hating people because of observed general behaviors, major differences in culture and morality, recent history of conflict, etc would make more sense….but that doesn’t require racial differences.
How would you feel if you were thought of as devious, violent, stupid, or immoral simply because you belong to a certain ethnic group?
Surely, you would resent it. Sadly, that has been the experience of millions of people. Furthermore, throughout history, countless innocent people have been abused and even murdered, merely because of their race or nationality. Indeed, most of the bloody conflicts going on today are rooted in ethnic hatred.
Today some people think simply preferring the company of your own racial group or ethnic group is ‘hate’ though…which is as strange as accusing a parent of hating other children because they prefer to be with their children.
If you just keep your hateful thoughts to yourself, that’s commendable. You’re even better than the unhateful person who hurts other people in various ways. My question is why? Why would you bother to hate someone without cause? To hate an entire race just seems like too much of an effort for something with no rewards at all. Plus you shut yourself away from all the wonderful people in that race you want to hate.
So I just don’t see why anyone would want to expend all that energy for no reward while accepting all people takes so little effort for a cornucopia of good things and people. I guess I’m just too lazy to bother hating an entire race.
Hating someone by the way the look or by their cultural background is a symptom of ignorance and fear more than anything.
Racism goes in all directions, and the notion that white people are exclusively racist, is in of itself a racist concept: everyone is equally capable of this kind of toxic thinking sadly. Of course, there are grains of truth for any demographic’s stereotype, but that doesn’t mean a few rotten apples spoil the whole bunch. Nor should anyone feel guilt or shame for what their long-deceased ancestors did to others, such thinking only spreads more hate.
It is best to acknowledge the mistakes of the past and to deal with the hate of the present without tearing each other to pieces. Is hatred ever justified?
“There is no easy answer to the question of whether or not hate is ever justified. On the one hand, hatred can be destructive and harmful. It can lead to violence, discrimination, and even genocide. On the other hand, hatred can also be a powerful force for good.
What are the causes of ethnic hostility?
Cultural factors such as problematic group histories, stereotypical perceptions, and grievances over cultural discrimination—including limitations on religious and cultural practices, unequal educational opportunities, and restrictions on the use of minority languages—are common causes of ethnic conflict.
